what I saw at the exhibition, Japan for Sustainability

At the exhibition, Japan For Sustainability held their booth next to Eco-Product tour Booth located in enterance of the exhibition. JFS (Japan For Sustainability) held responsibility of English Guided Tour of non-native Japanese speakers. JFS presented their ongoing activities to show how we are organized to seek sustainability by sending information about environmental activities in Japan. (http://www.japanfs.org/)

What i saw at eco product exhibition

Eco-Product 2005 Structure

Over the years, I have not visited to a giant exhibition. And I have never visited Japanese exhibition or forum in my life. From the Japanese media coverage I have expected the exhibition to be a lot more technical than I imagined. Overall I found various of uniquely interesting organizations and corporations at the exhibition.

There were positives and negatives about this exhibition. First, the positives were I was really amazed by the size of the event, and efforts of corporation and organization regarding environmental concerns. Three days is good numbers for the size of the event, staffs were really involved to direct about their ongoing activities and product information, and the café and event stage were able to blend happy times and flexibility in this exhibition.

At the exhibition what really struck me the most is the “language barrier”. The exhibition had majority of information only in Japanese. You can notice the numbers and calculation from reading the posters and movies, but true definition about the number were not very clear. Most of organizations and corporations lacked information in English. As I talked with many of foreign guests at this exhibition, they all informed about the language barrier disabled them to receive information into further depth. The concept of the eco-exhibition is still a questioning regarding the budgets of organization and corporation. It is clearly shown at the exhibition that the one with larger funds owns large portion of the territory compared to low budget organization. But, I saw a lot more enthusiasm in booth with small fund organization and corporation presenting their ongoing activities. The politics and money always have to blend in somewhere. But, as number of exhibition increases year by year, the thoughts and trend will change and the unique side may brighten. I am looking forward and have great expectation that this eco-product event will have great social impact on preservation of environment. In order to sustain balance in society, why not start from this eco-exhibition event?
